Is India 5G Ready?

Defending The Move

About a decade ago, India was surrounded by apprehensions regarding the digital development stage. With a country housing more than a seventh of the world’s population out of which less than a fourth of the total population happens to be uneducated, it seemed like a distant dream to come true. But a revolution took place in 2016 with the demonetization order and showed us how even during difficult times, our country’s economics kept ticking. Every mobile-based technology made life not just easier but even broke the long-argued myth that India is ready for a new world of digital upgrade. When 4G networks were released it brought the gift of data connectivity, but with 5G that will just be the tip of the iceberg with what it offers. Unlike its younger version, 5G will be all about faster speeds and the power to make our lives easier and more meaningful with technology. Such as right now, we are only connected to the device that is in our hands but with 5G we would be connected to many more devices everywhere. Where 2G gave us voice calling and messaging, 3G gave us the ability to use internet on our mobile phone. The much recent 4G networks brought broadband speed to our devices that connected us to every social media and app to do practically everything our heart desires. But have
you ever thought of a network so futuristic, so sophisticated that you could have an answer without having addressed your query even? Suppose your mother or your better half is browsing for something she wants for her birthday and you can get it for her without even asking! Or you expect a courier package to be tracked and have a constant update of where exactly your package is moving and currently at. That is the power of 5G and the much awaited next-generation technology that will connect us to everyone in the world. Not only will this open new door for India’s industrial development but even take work sectors such as healthcare, agriculture and manufacturing to an entirely new level.
With Tata Indicom already using 5G technology in their offices, there is no doubt that India has picked up the speed to rollout 5G on time unlike its predecessors. We as a developing nation having realized how 5G can change the way we work & live are not just waiting for the future, but are working on bringing it even sooner!

Refuting The Move

Though processors in India have announced their incline to bring 5G connectivity to smart phones, they are still a far cry from making it a cherished reality. With the growing hype over availability of 5G nowadays, people in India really require a reality check because even basic network issues still exist to torment our lives.
With the entry of Reliance Jio in the market two years ago, it resulted in many companies such as Aircel to shut down and Vodafone and Idea to merge to save their sinking boat. With such fierce on-going competition, even Airtel was forced to succumb to the pressure and slash their prices even offering facilities for free which previously they charged for. On top of that many telecom brands made huge investments to bring 3G to India’s population but today it has no purpose or soul left. That is why owing
to not just the financial aspect but even the functional one, India is in no position to manage the range required to work glitch free 5G networks. Hence the delay of availability of such technological development haunts us of the past when we received 2G, 3G and 4G after the rest of the world. Not just that, India is still playing catch-the-problem with 4G networks which still give problems in most regions.
Even today there are villages in India which are still out of bounds of 3G or 2G network, owing to which introducing 5G would be a task only for Indian Hercules to be able to accomplish.
In short, there is no point being concerned over a technology that won’t be releasing anytime near the coming future. Every smart phone user is much more sorted with the current 4G network they are using and in fact 4G itself has many glitches that still have to be taken care of!
